I am thrilled to be completing my 3rd year clinical placement in beautiful South Surrey, BC with Semiahmoo Bay Midwifery. I am so grateful for the chance to learn and grow as a midwife with my preceptor, Jennie Lucow, and I am equally thankful to the families at Semiahmoo Midwifery for including me on their journey into parenthood. I am honoured and privileged to bear witness to these transformative moments and look forward to the relationships we will build together in the coming months.
My journey into maternity care started with the birth of my own children, where I began to understand the unique power of childbirth and parenthood. This inspired a 10-year career as a full-spectrum birth doula in the Lower Mainland, supporting hundreds of families as they welcomed their babies earthside. Additionally, I completed training as a childbirth educator and have spent countless hours teaching prenatal classes to families across North America. Never one to stop learning and sharing, I’ve recently begun the process of qualifying as a Lactation Consultant and intend to be a fully certified IBCLC by 2023.
I am passionate about promoting equal access to midwifery care and for all families to receive respectful support through their parenting journey. This passion has given me opportunities to work with the Atira Women’s Society, Maxxine Wright Shelter, and the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres providing culturally focused and inclusive care for all families. My previous midwifery experiences brought me to Abbotsford and Chilliwack last year, where I had the chance to practice rural midwifery and discover small towns in the Eastern Fraser Valley I had never been to! These experiences have inspired my inclusive care approach supporting families to birth in the way that works best for them.
In my free time, when I’m not studying or working, you can find me hanging out at home with my partner, 3 children, and 2 cats in Langley, volunteering at the kids’ dance studio or spending time volunteering in a local arena as a figure skating judge.
